This vigorous, deciduous species from the Himalayas will reach up to 30 ft (9 m) or more. It bears prolific, sweetly perfumed, white to pale pink flowers with yellow stamens in clusters in late spring. Fast growing and very frost hardy, it is ideal for covering a small shed or wall. ‘Elizabeth’, ‘Rubens’ and ‘Tetrarose’ are all cultivars with pink flowers, largest in ‘Tetrarose’, and purple-tinted leaves. Prune hard after flowering.
