Several small, white-flowered species of clematis, like this Australian one, share the common name traveller’s joy, from the way they grow over trees and shrubs along roadsides to delight the traveller in spring with their massed white or cream flowers, and in fall (autumn) with their feathery white seeds. Clematis microphylla is distinctive for the small size of its leaflets, only about 3/4 in (18 mm) long and 1/8 in (3 mm) wide.
