A native of China introduced to the West early in the nineteenth century, this species in its typical form is now rarely seen in gardens, but it is one of the most important parents of the large-flowered hybrids.  A deciduous climber to about 6 ft (1.8 m) high, it bears white to pale lilac flowers up to 8 in (20 cm) wide from spring to fall (autumn).  'Candida' has pure white flowers.  Hardiness zone from 6 to 9                                                                    www.gardeninfo.com
