Med sin beliggenhet på nesten 70 grader nord er Botanisk hage i Tromsø verdens
nordligste! Den 16 da store hagen, som ble åpnet i juli 1994, ligger sør-øst for
universitetsområdet, med utsyn til fjellene i øst og sør. Beliggenheten, som
svarer til nordkysten av Alaska, bringer tankene hen på et ekstremt arktisk
klima. En gren av Golfstrømmen går imidlertid opp langs kysten av Nord Norge og
har en modererende innflytelse.
Arboretet og Botanisk hage på Milde:
Arboretet på Milde inneholder en severdig samling
rhododendron, med ca. 1500 planter av ca. 200 forskjellige naturlig viltvoksende
arter, samt ca. 2200 planter av ca. 400 forskjellige rhododendron kultivarer.
